For forty years, a mainstay of Iran’s pressure tactics against the West has included kidnapping foreign and dual nationals on Iranian territory, sentencing them to long prison terms under trumped up charges; all with the eye to extracting political concessions by bargaining with the freedom of those unjustly imprisoned by the Islamic Republic. Watch the Investigative Journal as we are joined by former hostages, Jason Rezian, reporter for the Washington Post, and Nizar Zakka, recently released in June after spending years in Iranian hands to hear first hand accounts of their time in Iran’s anti-democratic dungeons. Following Mr. Rezian and Mr. Zakka, Michael Pregent, senior fellow at the Hudson Institute, offers his take on ways to stop these human rights abuses and indefinite detention of innocents from taking place.
